Announcing the Incorporation of Framework M Software Foundation
We have an exciting milestone to share: Framework M Software Foundation has officially been incorporated as a non-profit company (Company limited by shares under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013, India).
From day one, our goal for Framework M has been simple: Build once. Scale forever. Achieving that vision requires more than clean architecture, zero-touch provisioning, and type-safe DocTypes—it requires long-term stability, transparent governance, and true vendor neutrality.
Establishing the non-profit Foundation early lays the groundwork for that commitment.
Our Brand Story: Why We Built Framework M
Having worked closely with open-source business application ecosystems for over a decade, we experienced firsthand the transformative impact of open-source software. Yet, as open source expanded into large enterprises and government organizations, critical friction points emerged:
- Single-Vendor Commercial Lock-In: When open-source frameworks are controlled by a single commercial entity holding all core IP and trademarks, enterprise adopters face long-term uncertainty around licensing shifts, proprietary add-on monetization, or vendor-driven deployment constraints.
- Architectural Cliffs: Monolithic, tightly-coupled architectures often force costly, high-risk re-writes when scaling from early prototypes to distributed microservices or edge environments.
- Strict Security & Data Sovereignty Mandates: Enterprise and public sector organizations require non-negotiable multi-tenant isolation, row-level security (RLS), pluggable OIDC identity, and audit compliance—capabilities that are frequently retrofitted as afterthoughts.
Framework M was engineered from the ground up to solve these exact pain points. By combining a Pure Hexagonal (Ports & Adapters) architecture, native multi-tenant RLS isolation, and AI-first machine schemas with an independent non-profit foundation, Framework M guarantees that enterprises and governments can build mission-critical systems without single-vendor or architectural lock-in.
Why a Dedicated Non-Profit Foundation?
We incorporated the Framework M Software Foundation at this early stage to ensure that the core framework, CLI tooling, and studio utilities are owned by a neutral, non-profit entity rather than any single commercial vendor.
Establishing non-profit ownership early guarantees:
- Vendor Neutrality & Open Governance: Ensures the core framework, CLI tooling, and studio utilities remain open, community-led, and free from single-vendor lock-in.
- Protected Intellectual Property: Secures the codebase, documentation, and underlying assets for the benefit of all contributors and adopters.
- Long-Term Operational Backing: Provides an independent legal and operational structure for the monorepo, domains, and core infrastructure.

What’s Next: Our Transition Roadmap
While incorporation is complete, setting up the Foundation's infrastructure is a step-by-step process. Here is what we are working on next:
1. Financial & Operational Readiness
We are currently completing the setup of the Foundation’s official banking infrastructure, tax registrations, and operational compliance.
2. Complete Asset Transfer
Once banking and tax numbers are finalized, ownership of all primary assets will be formally handed over to the Foundation under dedicated frameworkm.dev Google Workspace accounts:
- Monorepo & Site Transfer: Full ownership transfer of our main
gitlab.commonorepo—which houses the codebase, core packages (framework-m-core,framework-m-standard,framework-m-studio), full documentation, and GitLab Pages setup. - Domain Transfer: Transfer of the primary
frameworkm.devdomain to the Foundation's account.
3. Trademark Protection
To protect the ecosystem and ensure brand integrity, the Foundation will formally apply for registered trademarks for Framework M, FrameworkM, and associated logos. This guarantees that developers and enterprise adopters can rely on the quality and authenticity of the Framework M brand.
4. Community Governance Live
Our governance documentation, contribution models, and community guidelines are live on the website! You can explore how we operate and how developers can become maintainers directly on frameworkm.dev.
Build Once. Scale Forever.
Framework M was designed to bridge the gap between rapid developer velocity and zero-cliff enterprise architecture. With the Framework M Software Foundation, we are building an operational and legal structure that is just as resilient as our code.
Thank you to everyone building, testing, and contributing!
